Ways to Give Back This Christmas Season

Receiving gifts is enjoyable, but not nearly as rewarding as giving.

Receiving gifts is enjoyable, but not nearly as rewarding as giving.  There are so many worthy causes, No one can afford to donate to all of them, but below are some ideas you should consider.

10 Ways to Give Back

  1. Visit a homeless shelter and donate blankets, gloves, socks, hats, or coats. We would recommend Good News Mission. If you don’t have the money or items to donate, simply visit with the folks.  Sometimes just feeling like you matter as a person can really uplift someone.
  2. Sponsor an angel from the Salvation Army Angel Tree. It is an especially gratifying way to give because you can pick out just the right gift requested.
  3. A donation to the Salvation Army either in one of the many kettles around town or on-line will always be put to good use.
  4. Donate a warm coat to someone who doesn’t have one. One Warm Coat will probably direct you to a drive in your area.  Another organization that wants to get blankets into the hands terminally ill children is Project Linus.
  5. Ask at your church or around your neighborhood to see if there is someone, or some family, with a particular need you might fill.  While needy families always appreciate groceries sometimes  your gift can be just service.  Maybe an elderly person needs a ride to the doctor or a driveway shoveled.
  6. Take a gift of baked goods to your nearest fire or police station. Fire and police persons perform an essential and, sometimes, dangerous service. Show your appreciations for them these holidays.
  7. Give a toy to Toys for Tots. If you have children let them pick out a toy to donate and explain that not all children are as fortunate as they are.  It will help develop a spirit of giving in your child as well.
  8. Make small gift baskets for children in the hospital over Christmas and deliver them personally with your children.
  9. Be kind to someone you dislike.
  10. Send a letter or gift to a soldier. If  you don’t know one, try A Million Thanks

Perhaps you’ll be inspired by one of these great ideas and you can bring the joy of Christ to others in your community or around the world this Christmas. Giving, not receiving, is what the season is about.
