What is Underground Utility Coverage?

Some companies have recently introduced this additional coverage.

Many of the conveniences of a modern home depend upon something underground, like a water or sewer pipe, or telephone and power lines.  When an underground utility is damaged or wears out, repairs can be very expensive.  What’s more, you couldn’t buy insurance to cover the cost of repair. That is, until now.

The Good News

Recently, some insurance companies have introduced an additional coverage that can be added to a Homeowners policy for just a few dollars that covers underground service lines.  As a result, coverage would apply, usually subject to a $500 deductible, if they are damaged by such things as:

  • Wear and tear
  • Rust or corrosion
  • Collapse from above ground weight
  • Freezing or frost heave
  • Tree root invasion

If you have ever had to make repairs to one of these service lines you know how valuable this coverage can be.  While it is not yet available from all insurance companies, call us today to see how you can obtain this coverage.
