What Does Wedding Insurance Cover and Why Do I Need It?

The big day could be a big pain

As a newly engaged man, the last thing I want is for disaster to strike our special day. Unfortunately, there are many dangers that our wedding is exposed to. Thankfully, wedding insurance can be a great way to protect the investments you have made in your wedding day.

Not all wedding protection policies are the same, so be sure to consult your agent, but here are a few things that can be protected against.

The Unforeseen

Sometimes things are completely out of our control. What if there is a death in the family? What if the venue burns down a month before your big day? Or, what if unforeseen weather forces you to reschedule? With the right policy in place, reimbursement can be obtained should you be so unlucky.

Deposits

Sometimes things happen that can cause the cancellation or rescheduling of a wedding. Wedding insurance can help protect the deposits and investments you have made for caterers, florists, photographers, etc.

Lawsuits

If someone gets hurt attending, or providing services at your wedding, you could be held liable for their injuries. Additionally, what happens you accidentally cause property damage to the venue that you are renting? Often times you will be held liable for these damages. A good way to transfer the risk for bodily injury and property damage that you would otherwise assume is to purchase a wedding insurance policy.

Wedding insurance will never relieve all of the headaches and stresses that planning a wedding can cause, but it can bring some peace of mind to you and your fiancé. Be sure to talk to your caterers, talk to your venue, and most importantly, talk to your agent about wedding insurance! It could save you in the long run.
